What is a business backup?
A business backup is a separate copy of your company data, stored automatically in another location such as a secure data center. If something happens to the original, whether a crashed server, theft, ransomware or an accidentally deleted file, you restore the copy and carry on working.
In practice, backup software creates an encrypted copy of your files, systems and databases every day, or even more often, without anyone having to think about it. Previous versions are kept too, so if you discover weeks later that a document was overwritten or corrupted, you can still roll back to a good version.
Many business owners assume their data is safe because everything lives in the cloud. But services like Microsoft 365 only keep deleted files for a limited time and do not protect against every mistake or attack. A separate, automatic backup remains the foundation of any healthy IT environment.
